Dave Allport MBE: The Falklands

Dave retired from the Royal Navy in 2006 as a Warrant Officer 1, with over 34 years service. He was awarded the MBE in 2004 in recognition of service to the Royal Navy and community charity work particularly Guide Dogs for the Blind. On retirement Dave moved to the Queens Harbour Master staff as a Vessel Traffic Services Operator in the busy port of Portsmouth and served for 17 years, before finally retiring in July 2022.

Having been stationed in the Falklands for a period during his naval service, Dave is able to share some interesting insights into this remote outpost

Canal Cruise with Supper

 

John Pinkerton II

A change of scenery this year as we board the John Pinkerton II for a scenic cruise on the Basingstoke Canal with supper on board.
During the 2.5-3hr cruise, the boat's licensed bar will be open selling alcoholic and soft drinks, hot drinks and snacks. Depending on the weather, fore and aft decks may also be open to enjoy the fresh air and views
The usual raffle will be held in aid of this year's nominated charity (Hamble Lifeboat), so please come prepared!
We will board the boat at Colt Hill Wharf, Odiham, Hook RG29 1DH. There is parking just a short walk from the boarding point. For details of the boat facilities, go to the Basingstoke Canal Socienty FAQs page

David Griffiths: WW1 Motor Torpedo Boat

David and friends at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard have built a working replica of the small, fast torpedo boats used in World War 1 and the Russian War of Independence. A Coastal Motor Boat for the 21st Century – its history, construction and 2023 sea trials.
